Communications Manager

The Medical Protection Society (MPS) is the world\'s leading indemnifier of health professionals. The Communications Manager role is a pivotal role for our high performing Communications team. Working closely with the Head of Communications and Director of Communications and Policy, you will be responsible for overseeing all of our external relations activity, including public affairs. You will devise and deliver effective strategic engagement with the House of Commons and Lords, devolved bodies and the wider policy community including organisations representing doctors and dentists. You will also lead our media relations activity and proactively seek a higher and more consistent media profile, which will include overseeing the operation of the press office and provide guidance to members on liaising with the media. You will manage the External Relations team, along with a selection of PR and public affairs agencies.
We are looking for a talented media relations and public affairs professional, with a demonstrable track record of planning and executing external relations strategies. You must have strong management skills, including coaching and performance management. You will be extremely adept at managing the media, and have knowledge of national print and broadcast media. You must be passionate about politics and the media, and have a full understanding of the policy development process. A strong interest in health and legal policy, coupled with knowledge of the medical or legal press is highly desirable.
